






'Nyainqentanglha'means 'The God of Grassland' in Tibetan language, it is a moutain range that divides Tibet, the watershed between the Yarlung Zangbo and the Nu rivers.This range boasts 31 peaks that each exceed 6,000 meters and 11 peaks that surpass 5,000 meters.
The range's highest peak called Mountain Nyainqengtanglha,stands at 7,162 metres in Damxung County. It is one of the four well-know holy moutains in Tibet.Envelpoped in fleecy clouds and mist, it is snow-capped all year round.At the northwest foot of the peak lies Namtso Lake-the highest lakes in Tibet.Tibetan Buddhism has a tradition of worshipping Namtso Lake in every year of the sheep. Starting from the first month in the year of the sheep in the Tibetan calendar (the last year of the sheep in the Tibetan calendar was 2003),Tibetans in different parts of tibet will set out for Namtso Lake.By the 15th day of the fourth Month(roughly mid June in the Christian calendar),the number of pilgrims arriving at Namtso Lake to warship the lake will reach tens of thousands.The pilgrims spin prayer wheels,hang coourful prayer flags and banners on lakesides and mountain cliffs.bathe and wash clothes in the holy water in large groups.
