Most travellers approach Ngari from Lhasa because it's the easiest place to organise permits and find travelling companions. Nagri can also be approached from Xinjiang and Nepal.
1. Lhasa - Shigatse - Lhatse - Purang, (1338km, south route), no direct bus;
2. Lhasa - Shigatse - Lhatse - Tsochen - Gertse - Gegye - Shiquanhe (Ali, North route), 1760km, with direct bus;
3. Yecheng -Rutok - Shiquanhe (Ali) - Purang (Xinjiang-tibet), 1671Km, with direct bus;
4. Kathmandu - Zhangmu - Naylam - Saga - Paryang - Darchen, 970km, without direct bus.
5. Humla(Nepa) - Sino-Nepal frontier port - Purang, group entries are permitted while the individual passports shall be remarked with 'via Purang Port'.
Travel by renting a 4WD vehicle: this is the most popular way to travel around Nagri. During the peak season (July, August and September) it is very easy to get companions to share the expenses, travel schedules can be made flexible.
You can rent a jeep in either Lhasa or Shigatse, but suggest you to rent in Lhasa, much easier and more convenient. Do pay attention to the conditioned vehicle with a skillful and experienced driver with greatly impove your trip. The price should be confirmed prior to departure, with the usual cost of a round-trip being about CNY 130,000. Travel companions can be found in Yak Hotel, Snowland Hotel, Banak Shol Hotel, Kirey hotel, ect.
